Aha!!--As I suspected this is the 1981 version of the History of Rock n Roll--still great to hear this excellently produced show. Thanks. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone. Yeah. The one I have. And i figure, the latest one is probably best, right? Happy Thanksgiving all! Cool, I actually have almost all of this show. I need hours 15-18 and 33-36. Hoping to get them in these next few airings. I always wondered exactly which version this was. It seems that the hourly list is not too accurate right now, but the actual order of the show seems to be on track. The wikipedia link has some different info that is helpful as well. Happy Thanksgiving my friends. :-) The info/schedule I posted is for the 1978 version I believe, here's wikipedia's info on the 81 version... The final Drake-Chenault version was released in the spring of 1981, named the Silver Anniversary Edition of the History of Rock & Roll, so-called as it was released 25 years after Elvis Presley's first #1 hit. Not wishing to increase the size of the program, and with an attempt to place greater emphasis on the current musical trends, the controversial decision was made to severely cut back the sections devoted to the 1950s and early 1960s (prior to the advent of the Beatles). All of the pre-1978 content in the "Silver Anniversary Edition," therefore, was actually a recycled cut-down of Theroux, Ford and Drake's award-winning work. Only their two-hour profile of Elvis Presley remained relatively intact. The half-hour recaps of chart highlights from each year between 1956 and 1963 were condensed into a single half hour, while new chart sweeps for 1978, 1979, and 1980 were expanded to a full hour each. The final hour, the "time sweep", brought the number one song montage up to date through Eddie Rabbitt's "I Love a Rainy Night", the song that was number one in early 1981, at the time this version was prepared. The program closed with The Beatles' version of "Rock and Roll Music".

It's definitely in order, I'm sure that if you posted the 78 show information and they cut back things then it will change what's being aired since I'm playing the 1981 version. I think the whole schedule that will repeat three times is off enough so that it'll play it at different hours each time.

I live in the Boston area and was wondering if you could listen to the 50 years of #1's while driving across the country. As it turns out, Google Maps says you could drive from Boston to Seattle, and then continue from Seattle to Los Angeles in slightly less time than it takes to listen to the complete WBME's 50 years of #1's - NON-STOP, of course!

Wasn't "Unbelievable" by EMF a #1 song? I didn't hear it with the U songs in the 50 years A to Z.

Just checked. Wow, forgot it somehow. I'll have to find a way to rectify that! No worries! There was another "Un" song I thought got missed but... not even close. "Unforgettable" - the Natalie Cole/Nat King Cole virtual duet from the early 90s - only went to #14 on the Hot 100. (Interestingly, the original also went to #14 in 1951 on the Billboard pop singles sales chart.)
