To ALL WBME listeners, and fans of THE GOLD RUSH:
First of all, THANK YOU!! I am very humbled to learn that there were more than 35 listeners during the Feb 19th evening broadcast of THE GOLD RUSH. No pun intended here, but that gave me a RUSH!!
I have been asked about extending the "Close But No Guitar" segment. Yes, I will. But my research material is limited. The Whitburn book that I own is the Pop Singles Annual through 1986. There have been later editions but too far beyond my budget.
So I make a very simple request of any "chart geeks" among you: If ANYONE has a later editions of the Record Research POP SINGLES ANNUAL, I need a list of the singles that hit #41 in 1987, 1988 and 1989. Title, artist, chart date when it peaked at #41 and how long it was on the hot 100.
It will make for another interesting show, I assure you. And I thank you in advance.
Sincere thanks for listening!!
Tom Daniels

I just noticed today that we are going to get to hear the "Superbowl Shuffle" by The Chicago Bears Shuffling Crew in 1986, as it peaked at #41. I'm pretty sure I've never heard that song, so I am really looking forward to listening to it.

I checked these results against what is in Whitburn's Pop Annual through 2011 and everything matches perfectly. I had never heard of the Top40USA site before, but I just checked it out and it should be very useful. I think there is an error in this week's program. When playing the 1982 songs, "It's All I Can Do" by the Cars was played again (it had been already played in 1979) instead of playing "Since You're Gone" by the Cars. The Cars had three songs peak at #41 between 1979 and 1982.

Mitch,
Show #37 - which I am writing now and will produce to air in two weeks - is the "wCrap-up" of the "Close But No Guitar" feature. It will start with an acknowledgement of that error and a playback of the CORRECT record. Thank you for pointing it out.
