Just read where DJ Charlie Tuna has died in his sleep at the age of 71. Cause of death is unknown.

Sad to hear. Loved him as a game show announcer.

Yes, One of my favorites too! Especially on Scrabble RIP....
In addition, he was the announcer on America's Top 10 with Casey, two legendary voices on the same show:

Thank you WBME for airing AT20 from 10/8/05 as a tribute to Charlie Tuna. I used to listen to AT20 every weekend back then, before getting married and having a child. That particular weekend, I traveled to rain soaked Connecticut for a friend's wedding, so I never got to listen to it back then. As I recall, that Friday night, the White Sox finished off a sweep of the defending World Champs, on their way to breaking a curse of their own. Awesome memories from 10.5 years ago!

I enjoyed hearing these shows as well, but I want to ask a question. Does anyone else find the endless extras in the shows of this era distracting?

Good question, my take is they have 20 songs to countdown and it would only take them two hours to do it with no extras. It has to be padded to a 3 hour show so extras are needed. I like the extras because it gives you an idea of the top songs in different years and keeps you listening to find out the current chart. Remember AT10 and AT20 were targeted towards an older audience that remembers those songs from up to 30 years ago. The 2006 show is really good in my opinion, has some pretty big hits and great extras. Of course, Charlie sounds great and probably did the best job of anyone filling in for Casey after he left ABC Watermark.

Interesting note that Cool by Gwen Stefani was an extra on both Charlie Tuna shows. BTW, I'm listening to the 2006 show live as I didn't get a chance to preview that one.

Got to admit that the older extras sound better than most of the current songs but it's kind of like when they first changed AT40 to 4 hours where some of the extras kind of messed up the flow of the chart especially if the song was from the 50's or 60's.

I just feel like there's no flow to the shows when every other song is an extra. If there was one every four or five songs, I could see that. But they sound more like flashback shows and less like what's currently on the chart. It's pretty much 50/50.

I have to agree. I was listening a while ago and it was starting to get aggravating!
Like on my show, I try my best to have reasons for the extras and only do 2 per segment at the most.
That's why I hate doing early 60's shows. The songs are so short, I could probably do the previous weeks top 5 AND the entire top 50!

BenPotvin thanks for listening, and if I wasn't a St Louis fan, I would probably be a White Sox Fan, I figure after waiting over 80 years at that point, you deserved it. At least I think we can all agree, it wasn't and hasn't been the Cubs...

As a fellow Cards fan adam31 when WBME had the Glenn Frey tribute I wanted to request the special version of "The Heat Is On" that St. Louis station KHTR made with Cards highlights from 85 edited in but I'm not sure if it's even online anywhere (maybe youtube). I'm looking forward to this year watching that despite being favored watching the Cubs NOT win because choking up is what they do.

I've never seen that version of The Heat Is On.
We beat the Cardinals again in 2013!
GO RED SOX!

The Red Sox have caused me much misery in my life. I don't hold it against you though, Jeff.

That same station made a version of Bob Seger's "Shakedown" in 1987. Anyway are you like me that thinks it's a shame now that this Wildcard system almost makes winning the division worthless?

I think it makes it better. Plus the division winner gets a good advantage now with the 1 game playoff.

The only thing is we might eventually get this spend your Thanksgiving with us on FOX for a sports doubleheader starting with NFL football with the Bears & Lions in Detroit followed by Game 7 of the World Series between the Cards & Red Sox in 25 degree Fenway Park.
