The 60's huh I'm sure The Purple People Eater & Witch Doctor is on it what about the Christmas follow-up to Monster Mash called Monster's Holiday?

Yes, I believe you are correct I think Monster's Holiday is a Christmas song...if I remember correctly (it's been awhile since I heard it). But the other two songs--Purple and Witch-- are scheduled to be featured on the program.

It's not spooky but what about the 1963 Ran-Dells hit Martian Hop if not spooky it sure was weird.

You are right--it might not be spooky but it sure is weird--maybe a countdown is brewing in there somewhere.
Thanks for the suggestion.

Anybody catch the 'mistake' that got past me and was left in this week's show (9-16-72). It happens at the beginning of hour #2. Oops. Where is quality control when you need it. Joe

I said hour #2 began with the song at position number 17--WRONG it began with #27--which is the way I outro'd the song BUT....

Ask Tom Daniels, I'm great at a seamless edit. I took out the position of the song in the intro.
When I script I sometimes won't say a position at all, leaving it for the outro.

I am pretty good at editing myself but I didn't catch that 'mistake' until I was re-listening to the show this week end just before it aired on WBME--I was curious if anyone would catch it. I know that Casey did those kind of 'errors' quite often in the early shows (say the wrong chart position or give out some other wrong info) and in reality I kinda like it; as it proves that he and everyone that worked on the show were human.

Hi Joe,
Just listened for the first time to your show this weekend ( jan 6, 1973 )and i have to say it's just brilliant : No jingles - which is rare for a us show - and it's a good idea to have a straight presentation of songs without artificial support, great sound quality ( the stereo is really great ) and the choice of Cashbox instead of Billboard is a good one just to have a variety of songs since we all have billboard with Casey Kasem or Jeff.
Just one critic or suggestion : instead of playing bonus tracks from a year gone by, why don't you play songs from the Top 100 of the same week or the # 1 Country song, Easy Listening and Soul when they are not in the Top 40 ?
I juts have one enormous regret : to have missed all the previous shows
Excuse me if my english is incorrect, i'm french
Again, thank you for your show .

Skyseth, When the MERC does post July 1970 shows, they are Cashbox. Recent change so that I could do years past 1970.

OK Jeff, thanks for the info : so the two shows doesn't plays the same charts as AT 40 for the '70s which is better. For the'60s Billboard or Cashbox are two good options since there are no AT 40s.

Skyseth, Welcome of the WBME message board. By the way your English is certainly better than my French. Thanks for your suggestion regarding the Cash Box Countdown. Most of the countdowns are going to be from 1964-1984 (my favorite years for pop music) and so my goal with the 'bonus' songs (in most cases) is to play some of the other 'big hits' from 1955-1963--since I won't be doing any countdowns from those years. As far as #1's from the other Cash Box charts (soul, country, LP)--that is information I don't have access to. I get the information for the countdowns from a website that features only the Top 100 pop singles. One last thing--some of the past shows are available to listen to at: archive.org/Simply type in 'oldies, countdown' in the search box. Once again thanks for listening, 'DJ' Joe Cash Box Countdown

Skyseth,
Yes I am using the website featuring the Cash Box singles charts compiled by Randy Price for the countdown shows. I am aware of the American Radio History site but just discovered it in the last three months--and have been doing the show for almost a year now and began with the idea of making the extras (bonus songs) to be mostly comprised of Top 10 hits from 1955-1963; although I could always change that.
Just to let you know I have already recorded shows through the end of July--so as I begin to work on the shows for the last 5 months of the year, I will look into adding in the information Casey used to provide--let's see what's at the top of the other charts (Country, soul, A/C, LP, etc). I know that Jeff often does that for his shows (Music Expert Retro Countdown).
One last thing, if you see a chart you would like to see featured on an upcoming show please let me know.
Thanks,
'DJ' Joe Cash Box Countdown

Yeah, I do the top of the other charts and play a song not on that weeks top 40 and a song from the #1 LP. Just think it completes the look at that week in time.
I like the difference with your show doing an "oldie" from before you would count down.

Thanks Joe for these informations, if i need a show in the future i will tell you what. Thanks Jeff too.
I have another question : i just have recorded the Cashbox Countdown today ( monday Jan 9 ) but i had buffering during the Top 5 so it ruined my recording ( hopefully there will be encore shows ) ; do you think it has something to do with my computer ? I didn't do anything else at the same time like downloading or uploading.

It's contained in one interface. What may be happening is you have Windows Updates scheduled and installing at same time. I have some problems with a midnight-4am recording once a week because of that.

I use Rarma radio or Total recorder ( never both at the same time ) and there's no other stream or any update from windows. Anyway, since there are many replays , i finaly have the chance to succeed. Thanks for your kind assistance.

Seth,
Thanks for the playlist from the most recently aired show on WBME--it looks GREAT!! By the way, there is no official logo but what you made looks very professional.
One other thing, you will be happy to know that I took your suggestion of including reporting the other #1's from the Cash Box charts (country, soul & album)--into shows that begin airing in August. Of course, not every issue of Cash Box is available so I won't be able to always share the other chart toppers but will when the information is available.
Thanks to you and all the other great WBME listeners.
Joe

Here's the playlist for the show just aired this morning : Feb 18, 1967 www.sendspace.com/file/t4vut0It's really a pleasure to listen to a show with that great sound quality. I missed 1978 because WBME server was down last week , just hope that this will be posted on proboard soon.

Seth,
Another outstanding, professional looking chart.
By the way, the 1978 show contained no extras so it was just the Top 40 for that week from the Cash Box chart.
Thanks so much for the charts--I'm gonna start collecting them up in a binder.

Here's the Cashbox Top 100 original page www.sendspace.com/file/e8oj9rJoe, you didn't answer to my question : Will you post the link to the files of the 1978 show on proboards soon ? Due to technical issue on WBME last week, i did not record the show and there was no repeat because of the tribute to Sonny Geraci last saturday. Thanks

Seth,
Sorry I did not respond sooner but I had not planned on posting the 1978 show since it featured no bonus songs and musically it is so similar to AT40 from that
week. I suppose if you PM me I could mail you a copy of the show, if you like.
Let me know,
Joe

Heres' the playlist for Feb 23, 1980 www.sendspace.com/file/soj27palong with the Cashbox chart www.sendspace.com/file/yg8pkyJoe, although a 1978 could look like an AT 40 , i think it's interesting just because you use Cashbox instead of Billboard so there are songs that are not featured on AT 40 that week, like " Curious Mind " by Johnny Rivers that only reached # 41 on Billboard while it was # 34 on Cashbox and #39 on Record World. Here's the Cashbox Top 100 of Feb 11, 1978 ( i made a mistake earlier by sending to you Feb 18 ) www.sendspace.com/file/mn9yyfand the Billboard Hot 100 of Feb 11, 1978 www.sendspace.com/file/0bbndhand , just for fun , the Record World Top 100 of Feb 11, 1978 in order to compare with the two other charts www.sendspace.com/file/zkedc1Thanks for your kind proposal, i send to you a request by PM.
