I kind of butchered the last critique I did. This time, I am going to try something new....a running critique. Some people do that on the AT40 site. I don't have the fancy software programs like those people have but who cares about that.
Heard a set with the Contours, Stevie Wonder, the Marvalettes and a few others that I could not commit to memory. This is tough when you don't have anything printed to go by. In any case, sounds like about 1966. This of course is more of the Motown catalog that Jeff has been playing the last several weeks.
Can't say I have recognized any of these songs so obviously none of them were big hits. Lower than top 20 hits probably did not get any recurrent airplay in the 70s when I started listening to the radio or since with a few exceptions.

Next set featured the Isley Brothers, the Temptations, Martha & the Vandellas and a couple others. There was an instrumental in that set although I can't identify who did it. This might be 1968 as Gladys Knight & the Pips version of "I Heard it Through the GCrapevine" is being played, the first song I have recognized! Liked the aforementioned instrumental. Casey Kasem once told a story about how Gladys and co. played this song in a few of their concerts and the fans asked why were they playing Marvin Gaye's song. Truth of the matter is that they recorded it first but he had a bigger hit with it so the fans thought it was Marvin's song.
Ah the stream has stopped. Enjoyed what I heard. If it is 1968, then some of these artists like Martha & the Vandellas, the Marvalettes and the Contours are near the end of their chart careers. Of course Gladys and Stevie have many. many years left in the spotlight.
Let's see if the stream is back. Nope. Ok, guess that's it for this critique. Some good Motown songs on this show.

Hi Jeff, I really like the Chicago song that you use at the end of the shows. Nice transition and the song fits well.

On the Jeff Michaels Show? Thats a song called Get Down by Raydio (Ray Parker Jr.'s first band.) It was the flipside to Jack & Jill.

Sorry, I meant your retro countdown shows. I think of that as the Jeff Michaels show too...lol. Sorry, maybe I should have put this in the countdown thread.

Its ok, I used 2 different Chicago tunes for the old Retro Countdown theme...
Intro was: Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is
Outro was: Make Me Smile
In between was Telstar.
