Hey, Just heard that Mark Elliott passed away over the Easter week end. I have a Weekly Top 30 show from 1981, if anyone is interested in hearing it. I did not hear about that. Would be a good tribute for a special airing. Always enjoyed when Mark would sub for Casey on AT40 and CT40. He did more than a great job and had the legitimacy with the booming radio voice that made his hostings a big event. Greatly admired his work. RIP.

Any objection to putting it in as next week's Listener Depot? (Assuming it or something else wouldn't be put up at a special time slot later this week.)
Among his hosted shows, I've only heard a single CT40 (1/6/90, the first show of the 90s).

Go ahead and put it in the Listener Depot Google Drive. I can’t think of a reason why it shouldn’t be on the X.

Wasn't Mark Elliott the only one to sub on AT40 & CT40?

Yes, though IMO that's not saying much, as CT40 had all of three different guest hosts at any point during its run - Mark Elliott through March 1993, David Perry from July 1993 to the next-to-last show, and Jeff Wyatt hosted the last one.

I'm guessing Premiere will play a 5/78 show & mention him in an extra as hosting the week before or after.

Actually, both 70s and 80s could have that option since he guest-hosted in both decades, which wasn't the case for either Dick Clark or Gary Owens.

Just saw where Charlie Van Dyke (another legendary AT40 sub host) commented on Mark, according to People:
Fellow voiceover artist Charlie Van Dyke confirmed Elliott's death to The Hollywood Reporter on Monday night. According to Van Dyke, Elliott died on April 3 in a Los Angeles hospital after suffering two heart attacks. He was also battling lung cancer.
"He was one of a kind … and kind is a great word to describe him," Van Dyke told THR.

According to Van Dyke, Elliott died on April 3 in a Los Angeles hospital after suffering two heart attacks. He was also battling lung cancer. "He was one of a kind … and kind is a great word to describe him," Van Dyke told THR. This is News from Comicbook. Mark Elliott, Iconic Disney Trailer Voiceover Artist, Dies at 81 Mark Elliott, a DJ and voiceover artist known for his prolific work in Disney trailers and promotional material from 1977 to 2008, has passed away at the age of 81. The news of his passing was confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter on Monday by fellow voiceover artist Charlie Van Dyke. According to Van Dyke, Elliott died on Saturday, April 3rd in a Los Angeles hospital after suffering two heart attacks. "He was one of a kind … and kind is a great word to describe him," Van Dyke said in a statement. Born John Harrison Frick Jr. on September 24, 1939 in Cedar CCCrapids, Iowa, Elliott started his career as a disc jockey and deejay for multiple stations, both under his own name and under the pseudonyms of Sandy Shore, Buddy Harrison, and Ed Mitchell. He would go on to guest-host American Top 40 and Casey's Top 40 in the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s. Elliott began to work in the world of voiceover in 1977, with his first paid work on the trailer for Smokey and the Bandit. He went on to do voiceover for radio spots for Star Wars: A New Hope, as well as The Goodbye Girl. "While we're working on [Smokey and the Bandit, the voiceover studio] came to me and they said, 'We got this director who's making us nuts, just driving us crazy,'" Elliott told VO Buzz Weekly in 2015. "'He can't decide how he wants to promote [his movie], if you'll work with us on spec when he makes his mind up on what he wants, we'll see that you get a big piece of the action.' I said OK, so we started working literally seven days a week trying to do it, and he couldn't decide whether he wanted a comedy, whether he wanted an adventure, whether he wanted it dark, whether he wanted it light, whether he wanted romance. He just couldn't decide." Elliott was first hired by Disney in 1977, with him providing the voiceover for the theatrical re-release of Cinderella. Elliott would then go on to provide voiceovers for Disney for over three decades, ranging from theatrical trailers, previews, bumpers, and narration for The Magical World of Disney. He would go on to be associated with some of the quintessential bumpers on Disney home video, including "and now our feature presentation" and "experience the magic." In terms of work outside of Disney, Elliott provided the voiceover for multiple installments of the Muppets franchise, promos for the series finale of M*A*S*H, and the iconic Academy Award-winning film Chariots of Fire. He would even go on to play himself in the 2013 comedy In a World..., which was set in the world of voice acting. "[Being the voice of Disney] is a wonderful touchstone for my career," Elliott revealed. "If that's the identity that I carry with me for the rest of my life, I wouldn't have it any other way."Our thoughts are with Elliott's family, friends, and fans at this time.

And if 4/16/05 - 2005 having the longest AT20 drought at this point - goes next, it could be two in a row. (Assuming they're not an extra.)

It was rather funny hearing Casey quoting The Simpsons before the "Come On Eileen" extra.

I thought the story about Edie Brickell making an album with her stepson (Paul Simon's son) was especially nice and touching!

Was that series that Casey mentioned Cheap Trick's "Surrender" was a theme for a current series? Also Surrender wasn't a Billboard Top 40 hit so unless it was a hit on another chart I would really call it one of the biggest hits 28 years ago. I wonder if ABC paid a little to get a promo for their show. I also wondered if since Seacrest hosts AT40 if Idol slipped Premiere some cash for Idol acts to get spots because Kelly Clarkson's pop sure didn't fit in with he rest of the bland rock just like fellow Idol acts David Cook & Jordan Sparks clashed with the rest the years they were in. Finally the Logic song 1-800-273-8255 might not be enough for someone exposed to repeated listening's of the Top 2 because between listening to You're Beatiful & Bad Day non-stop is a REALLY Bad Day.

Good questions but I never get tired of hearing "Bad Day" personally. You're Beautiful, a slightly different story, but the unedited version is amusing. i don't know what Surrender was all about, don't recall it being the theme of a TV show either!

Thought American Dance Traxx should repeat till 6am estern and then Mark Elliott follows immediately!?? But ADT last broadcast ended at about 4.30h I think. Now WGXX regular music is on...
Nevertheless - here are the tracks played on this week´s ADT show - 9-16-1989

ADT was really great this week, but of course I'm a huge 1989 fan!
As stated in the Mark Elliott thread, the last two runs of American Dance Traxx would be pre-empted to make sure the repeat of the marathon starts on time. I simply didn't have enough time to run the almost 3 hour show again at 430 to fit everything in today, sorry!

MON - Listener Depot - Dick Clark National Music Survey 11/20/82 by @dees Sleaze Make that all one word and you get the correct tag: @deessleaze And if my reading of the "other countdowns" history is correct, this should be the chart: cashboxmagazine.com/archives/80s_files/19821120.htmlNote the HUGE drop-off for "Somebody's Baby" - and also note the countdown being a Top 30, thus why it's a dropper (as otherwise, it'd just be a HUGE drop within the survey). ETA: And since this is a rare week from the second Casey era where we get a cue sheet: charismusicgroup.com/Cue%20Sheets/Revived%20Show/2001-0421.pdfWhich means, we'll be getting a certain America's Top Hit (and possibly the exact same story to go with it) for the third time in five weeks! (It's a nice song, but: Damn!)
