We all know this channel is not anything like it used to be! I'm surprised like many others (Freeform, etc), it hasn't changed it's name to "Reality TV"....but we all used to "want our MTV!", so this poll is what was your favorite MTV music video of the 80s?

The name itself is effectively nothing more than a placeholder at this point, as "MTV" hasn't officially stood for anything for just over a decade. (Viacom phased out the use of "music television" as part of a logo re-design in 2010, so there is actually something to it besides just the collective public opinion.)

Too much politics, never give good artists their due.... No cover story for artists that die that deserve it... F.U.C.K. Them. (My board, I approve of the language!)

One thing that Billboard used to list on the Hot 100 was whether a song had a video. I recall not having cable in the early 1980's and staying up half the night to watch music videos on TBS, on the week ends. By the way, there is ad for MTV in Billboard's August 1st issue--and a great article about how Top 40 was already splintering into radio stations that leaned A/C and some that were Top 40 that leaned toward rock n roll. worldradiohistory.com/Archive-All-Music/Billboard/80s/1981/BB-1981-08-01.pdf

So I wasn't the only one who liked Night Tracks on Superstation WTBS. I always hated when the Braves had late night west coast games because it cut into Night Tracks. But I remember the 4th of July game with the Mets that had multiple rain delays & many extra innings that FINALLY ended in time for about 1 & a half videos.

I'm with you both. I didn't have MTV until the late 80s. I depended on Night Tracks, Friday Night Videos and America's Top 10 to even catch a glimpse of all the pop music stars.
