My rub with the late 80s and beyond is the Crap and dance music.

Really? I am not a big fan of that kind of music. Hip Hop, Crap, Whatever. We play it on occasion in the mixes Tuesdays and Wednesdays but not really often since most of our listeners aren't big into it.

So you can say cCrap, but not Untalented Artist (Eddie Vedder's band)? Haha! That's so awesome!

It wasn't my fav but the lyrics make me laugh, especially the bed squeakin lmao.

I kind of liked the song Tic Tac Toe although, I do think they sound like DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince.

Hey Adam...great job on the show. Thank you, glad you enjoyed it, I did also. My fav had to be "Tic Tac Toe" by Kyper I was surprised to see on the cue sheets that they gave some stations the option to edit it out (Do they give that option for 1/3 of the songs nowadays?). That was one of my favorites too along with "Banned In The U.S.A." by Luke feat The 2 Live Crew. I'm ready for a late October/November 1989 show to hear their other hit "Me So Horny".

Back then, some of the songs of that nature, like Humpty Dance, radio was afraid to play due to content. But compared to the stuff today, that stuff is The Carpenters!

Gone are the days of the controversial "Like A Virgin" and "I Want Your Sex"

What's funny though is back then Pink Floyd's "Bullsh!t" from Money & The Who's "Who The F@ck Are You" from Who Are You played unedited but today are edited out when if played today nobody would notice because they've heard the person next to them say worse a few minutes ago.

I remember in 1992 the town where I grew up got a new rock station and they played a bunch of unedited songs their first week. (They played both Use Your Illusion albums) and my dad flipped when he heard that line in "Who Are You." He never knew that line was in there. "Legs" by ZZ Top has the line where it sounds like he says "s... I got to have her." Sometimes I hear that edited, but they played it on the radio and MTV back in 1984.

I remember living overseas in New Zealand when Nelly first came out with "Ride Wit Me" (peaked at number three on the Billboard Hot 100). It was probably one of the most edited songs (CCrap or otherwise) up to that time to even sniff #1.
Anyway I was talking to a girl friend of mine who was listening to the radio and they must have played the unedited song for close to three weeks before anyone caught on or complained. She told me, hey there's a song that came on the radio that just said F@ck me good, S&&K me good, the n word, and they're talking about smoking joints. I said "no way!!! had to be cut out, are you sure??". She said yeah, it was two or three days before she heard it again and could tell me what song it was.
Remember this is when the song first came out , and no one over there had even heard of Nelly or this song. (It was about a 6 month delay before TV shows or music that was new in USA would start to come out over there.) After about two weeks or so, nobody played that version anymore and all you'd here was the edited version with the sfx.

Looking back a lot of Hip-Hop acts made completely different clean versions of songs like 2 Live Crew & N.W.A. . I'm not sure when they decided to just use edits or back-masking (I think is the right term) where it played the deleted word backwards. The first songs that hit big on the Hot 100 that I remember having edits was Warren G & Nate Dogg's "Regulate" that hit #2 in 94 with most of the edits being gun references instead of explicit words & from 95 Coolio's #1 "Gangsta's Paradise" but I remember those being mostly for drug & gun words. The first #1 with explicit lyrics edited I think was 2pac's 2 sided hit from 96 "How Do U Want It/California Love either that or Bone-Thugs-N-Harmony's "Tha Crossroads" a month before but their fast rhymes made some of their lyrics hard to tell if they were edited or not. Anyway the more of these Shadoe Stevens shows I hear the more I like them (especially compared to Ryan Seacrest).

He does say it in Legs. The lyrics say Sure but that's not what they sing.
Money and Who Are You began to be edited when the Janet boob thing happened.

I was listening to the Shadoe show (10/21/89) where "Me So Horny" debuts, and I chuckled at how he handled its introduction.

That reminds me of listening to the 8/30/86 show last weekend where after Jermaine Stewart's song Casey said we don't have to take our clothes off I laughed & said I hope not. By elimination the show this week should be from 93 or 94 unless we get a repeat year which wouldn't be so bad either.

I am not sure what Adam's way of picking shows will be or how often year will repeat. But I am sure he will give us the best mixture and not play the same year within a month. But I leave it up to him.

This week's edition of Classic AT40 with Shadoe Stevens is from 9/10/1994. Adam, When is the most convenient time for you to announce when the "Wednesday Shadoe show" will be run? I have been in the habit of working up my schedule of what I am going to listen to for the upcoming week (Mon-Sun) on Friday morning because I had all the information I needed by then. But lately I have been waiting for the date of the upcoming Shadoe show because I like to put the date on my schedule before I print it, rather than hand-writing it in later. It's not that big a deal for me because I am almost certain to listen every Wednesday morning because I have heard so few Shadoe shows it is almost always a new one for me. But it would be convenient to know at what time you will normally have the time posted so I can just check once and then print my upcoming week's schedule. Thanks.

There is no set time for the announcement, it's just usually when I get around to it. I like to give a day or two for people to make guesses if they want though. I am not sure what Adam's way of picking shows will be or how often year will repeat. But I am sure he will give us the best mixture and not play the same year within a month. But I leave it up to him. Jeff is right, I will try to give the best mixture, but with only 6 years to choose from, there will be repeat years but not the same episode. There are 8 years to choose from in the Casey Kasem 80s series. I will avoid playing the same year within a month when possible.

Listening to this weeks show makes me wonder if Shadoe knew they were ending the show in January because it seemed at points he was just "mailing it in". Of course with some of those songs I can't blame him.

I would assume Shadoe did know at this time because they had already been taken off the air in the USA. I however see Shadoe as being a true professional at this time and doing an outstanding job under tough circumstances. I think the writing if anything made him sound like you describe. There didn't seem to be as much research done on the show in the last few months.
