Really enjoyed the Modern Rock Countdown aired on WGXX yesterday. Think its the best you've ever done, loved every song and discovered some I didn't know. The usual MERC listeners would probably disagree but glad you do other type shows like this!

We may offer a shirt of some sort at some point for sale.
If enough show interest, we can try to do one with the logo on it!

Kindly requesting a 1976 show in late June. It was at the height of the TV theme song rage with at least 4 songs on the chart at the same time plus more crazy stuff down the chart. Thank you. Ooh...and don't forget to include David Ruffin's "Everything's Coming Up Love", one of the best songs never to make the top 40

It looks like the Music Expert Retro Countdown has been re-added to the WRFZ Rochester, NY Sunday morning schedule. It is currently playing there (7am-11am EDT) for I think the first time since November.

It's been there all along. I've checked a few times and it's always been on every single week. I guess we just have to agree to disagree. This will be my last comment on this. Before they switched to Christmas music about Thanksgiving, I didn't have any problems listening to MERC on WRFZ. They played Christmas music during Christmas season. One morning in January I got up early to listen to a show on Sunday morning and they had a church service going on (7am Eastern is 6am Central so I was up early). I listened to Replay Radio a few times on Monday afternoon. I thought it was maybe just a one week deal so I kept checking (not every week) to see if they were playing the MERC countdown. I probably checked about 50% of the weeks in January thru May 2nd. May 9th is the first time they were playing it that I checked. Hopefully they will continue to play the countdown from now on. I am done discussing this. You can have the last word if you want to.

Maybe you are confusing two different Affiliates. WRFZ is Rochester free radio in Rochester New York. They have never switch to Christmas music because they are a community station and don't have a specified format.
I know that Another Sunday morning station out of Florida was playing Christmas music at Christmastime and may have been a problem, shouldn't have... but it wasn't WRFZ.

We have done a tentative list for next year which will include the request by pebsdad. We also will be including the request to do another of our shows where we do 1960, 1961, 1962 and 1963 one per hour. We'll probably do the top 15 of each week in time.
If there's anything anyone has thought about asking for, now is the time to make mention.

It is my memory of 1985. Music Expert Retro Countdown 8/17/1985 It is No 31 SENTIMENTAL STREET Night Ranger. Night Ranger had a big hit on their previous album with the ballad Sister Christian, so their label was thrilled when they delivered Seven Wishes with Sentimental Street, that while not quite a ballad, is one of their more easygoing songs and is rife with nostalgia. It was also a big hit and kept them on pop radio. In a Songfacts interview with Night Ranger lead singer Jack Blades, he told the story behind this song: "'Sentimental Street' is one of my favorite songs that I've ever come up with. In 1975 I moved up to San Francisco, and there's this area out there called the Avenues. When you're driving to the airport in San Francisco, you drive through Golden Gate Park on the way, and then you hit the Avenues. And what they are, they're streets, there's Juda, Kirkham, all these streets that are all alphabetical, but then they cross to like 45th Avenue, 35th Avenue, the Avenues. So I always thought when I was driving there, Wouldn't it be fun to walk down the street, just thinking about life and stuff like that, and have a street called Sentimental Street, where you could walk down that street in your life and talk about your life. And then I thought about it when I was driving in San Francisco one day, and I was like, 'Sentimental Street in the Avenues.' Wouldn't that be fun if that name, Sentimental Street, was one of the names in the Avenues, along with Juda, Kirkham – Sentimental. So that's kind of where the title 'Sentimental Street' in the Avenues came about." I went to the Night Ranger's concert Sinjuku LIQUIDROOM in Tokyo on July 10, 1996. I've been a Night Ranger's fan from the early '80s. There are Lots of 80's bands that still sound great, and They are Statues. In my view, Working the stage and showing they were having fun playing is just as Important as their Chops which they will always have. Jack Blades was a Pro, and it shows and gets the rest of the band going so good Show. It was great energy. The vocals were more layered and with more harmony parts. Flawless, Excellent, Stunning. It was a fantastic concert. My favorites songs. ★"Don't Tell Me You Love Me" ★ "(You Can Still) Rock in America" ★"Touch of Madness" ★"Sister Christian," ★"Goodbye" ★"The Secret of My Success" (from the motion picture soundtrack of The Secret of My Success) ★"Time of Our Lives" ★Sentimental Street Night Ranger Japan Tour 1983

Music Expert Retro Countdown 8/20/1966 It is No11 Blowin' in the Wind Stevie Wonder "Blowin' in the Wind" is a song written by Bob Dylan in 1962. It was released as a single and included on his album The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan in 1963. It has been described as a protest song and poses a series of rhetorical questions about peace, war, and freedom. The refrain "The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind" has been described as impenetrably ambiguous: either the answer is so obvious it is right in your face, or the answer is as intangible as the wind. In 1994, the song was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame. In 2004, it was ranked number 14 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the "500 Greatest Songs of All Time". In 1966, Stevie Wonder, recorded his own which became a top 10 hit on the Billboard Hot 100, as well as number one on the R&B charts. I went to the Stevie Wonder concert in Tokyo Dome on December 23, 1990. It was a Xmas concert. Stevie Wonder is put on this planet to spread love through music with his incredible musical talent. Music is my religion, and Stevie is so definitely one of my gods. In my view, This concert has me convinced that music is a mystical force for good in the world. It was endlessly beautiful, which we need it. It was a fantastic concert. Stevie Wonder. Live at Tokyo Dome Tokyo Japan December 23, 1990. Setlist. 1. Master Blaster 2. Higher Ground 3. Music Expert Retro Countdown 8/13/1983 It is No 27 Tell Her About It by Billy Joel. "Tell Her About It" is a 1983 hit song written and performed by Billy Joel, from the album An Innocent Man. Written in homage to the Motown Sound and specifically, The Supremes, the song was #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts for one week on September 24, 1983, replacing the Phil Ramone-produced song, "Maniac" by Michael Sembello. The single was certified Gold by the RIAA for US sales of over 500,000 copies. In interviews, Joel has indicated that the song, heard out of context of the An Innocent Man album, sounds more like a Tony Orlando and Dawn record than the Motown sound he intended. An Innocent Man is the ninth studio album by American singer-songwriter Billy Joel, released on August 8, 1983. The concept album is a tribute to the American popular music of Joel's adolescent years with Joel paying homage to a number of different and popular American musical styles from the late 1950s and early 1960s, most notably doo-wop and soul music. The album cover artwork was taken on the front steps of 142 Mercer Street, just north of the intersection of Mercer and Prince Street in the SoHo neighborhood of Manhattan, New York City. I went to the Billy Joel concert in Tokyo Dome. It was a live event called "KIRIN DRY GIGS" (July 24, 1988) that was in Tokyo Dome, it was from 1:30 pm to 11:00 pm. It was an exciting and hot concert. But I was exhausted. The opening act was Impellitteri,2nd set was Hooters,3rd set was Art Garfunkel,4th set was Boz Scaggs,5th set was Billy Joel. I remember this concert like it was yesterday. I'd always liked Billy Joel's music, but this concert converted that like to love. It was not easy to pick out highlights, but "Pressure" and "I Saw Her Standing There " were songs I'd not heard before and blew me away. The Beatles' "I Saw Her Standing There" concludes. Boz Scaggs and Graham Bonnet, the vocalist of Impellitteri . This finale was showing great excitement. The miraculous co-starring of Billy singing the first verse, Boz singing the second, and Graham Bonnet singing the third. I had The best music ever. It was a great concert. ★My favorite songs. ★"Piano Man" ★"Say Goodbye to Hollywood" ★"Just the Way You Are" ★"Honesty" ★"It's Still Rock and Roll to Me" ★"An Innocent Man" ★"Leave a Tender Moment Alone" ★"We Didn't Start the Fire" ★"The River of Dreams" ★ BILLY JOEL - KIRIN DRY GIGS 1988 .Tokyo Dome, Tokyo, Japan 24th July 1988. Music Expert Retro Countdown September 6, 1980. It was No 1 Sailing by Christopher Cross "Sailing" is a 1980 soft rock song written and recorded by American artist Christopher Cross. It was released in June 1980 as the second single from his eponymous debut album (1979). The song was a success in the United States, reaching number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart on August 30, 1980, where it stayed for one week. The song also won Grammy Awards for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Arrangement of the Year, and helped Cross win the Best New Artist award.VH1 named "Sailing" the most "sensational soft rock" song of all time. The song was recorded in 1979, utilizing the 3M Digital Recording System, making it one of the first digitally recorded songs to chart. In his Grammy acceptance speech, Cross acknowledged "Sailing" as his favorite song on the album and that originally it was not meant to be single. The song was later identified as an archetype of the style that later became known as yacht rock(Cross and similar artists referred to the style as the West Coast sound at the time). I went to the Christopher Cross concert at Shibuya Public Hall in Tokyo on October 9, 1997. Christopher Cross is a fantastic singer-songwriter, band, and I kept on listening to his beautiful lyrics and rhythm. I was so moved when I could see the audience singing and smiling, knowing the lyrics. I am a big fan for so many years. His voice is unique, has a voice and song style that's very much his own, and the texts are touching. He is a wonderfully gifted songwriter and lyricist. I never tire of listening to his soothing presentations. It was a great concert. ★My favorite songs. ★"Ride Like the Wind" ★"Sailing" ★"Arthur's Theme (Best That You Can Do)" ★"Think of Laura" ★"A Chance for Heaven" (swimming theme from 1984 Summer Olympics) ★"Loving Strangers" ★"Swept Away" ★"Kind of I Love You" ★"Rainy Day in Vancouver" Christopher Cross Live TV in Japan 2009
